FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE -- July 23, 2007
Phoenix – Sun City – Peoria – Glendale, Arizona
Sun City Country Club, the first and oldest country club in Sun City, Arizona,
is under
new ownership and management.
Originally incorporated in 1965, the Sun City Country Club (SCCC) has seen a decline in new membership over the past 15 years. Over saturation of golf courses and an aging population has had a negative economic impact on many of the local Arizona golf courses. As a result, SCCC had a decision to make … find a buyer who wanted to keep the 124 acre property a golf course or sell out to developers who would convert the land into condos.
A bid process resulted in the selection of Sun City Golf Resorts to purchase property and operate the 42 year old SCCC. Tom Loegering, Manager of Sun City Golf Resorts, is a resident on the golf course and wanted to "keep my view out the back window". He also saw an opportunity to restore SCCC to its former high standards. Loegering believes that with the proper infusion of capital and prudent management, he can succeed with the mature, tree lined championship course that many professionals feel is the gem of the West Valley.
The start of his two year upgrade plan has already begun on the golf course itself with the addition of more course maintenance personnel, replacement of old equipment, the purchase of higher quality seed for over seeding and improvements to the irrigation system.
In addition to a robust practice facility, SCCC has on staff former tour player, Penny Pulz, 2 time LPGA Champion and nationally recognized Golf For Women magazine’s Top 50 Teacher 2004, and her Penny Pulz Golf Academy. The Academy offers highly customized instruction and training combining today’s sate of the art technology from the sports world with research from the medical world to simplify and speed the student's progress.
As the course rounds into shape, homes on the golf course will be offered in resort packages to include all aspects of the valley golf experience.
Community support is also key to Loegering’s plan. "We want and need the support of the local community. The community was what made SCCC special in the early days and we want to build that ‘neighborhood feel’ once again." In support of this, Loegering has announced an aggressive Social Membership program to encourage community members to use the facility and enjoy the newly opened Chef Peter Salazar's 19th Hole Restaurant.
Also, for a limited time, SCCC will allow public play as a way to reintroduce Sun City's first and … if you believe its new owner … soon to be the "finest" golf course. No age or residence requirements apply. Sun City Country Club is located at 107th 9433 North Avenue in Sun City, Arizona; just north of Olive Avenue; on the internet at www.SunCityCountryClub.org
